Postpartum Yoga

Happier moms have happier babies!

After the first few weeks of baby-daze, you can’t wait to get your body back! But the idea of working out is daunting, isn't it? And who will watch the baby? You desperately need to carve out some time for yourself, though, to physically and mentally come back to yourself. It doesn't have to be so hard!

"I had taken Marleen's prenatal yoga classes (my first yoga ever) and really enjoyed the relaxation and strength they gave to me. After giving birth, I could hardly wait the 6 weeks and doctors OK before beginning the post partum classes. I missed my yoga! Marleen has a wonderfully peaceful energy about her. Her classes are welcoming, comfortable and non-judgmental. The classes are intimate, giving Marleen the opportunity to help personalize and focus your healing process. These classes helped me heal my body from the inside out. The immediate benefit is the gift of a moment out of the house and the calm and peace of that hour of time. The secret benefit is a beautiful, strong inner core. It is not really something you notice overnight. But, over the last year, I can honestly say that I am back to my pre-pregnancy weight and feel stronger than I have ever been. I attribute that to Marleen's post partum classes."

I will come to your house (and later to your office, if you go back to work) and will work with you in the privacy of your own home, with the baby within arms reach. Getting your strength back, not to mention your shape and your energy, is eminently doable with the gradual build up of postpartum yoga. We start gently with abdominal work, because those muscles took the most abuse during your pregnancy. Then week after week we will add more muscle groups in the order that best matches your returning strength and endurance. Before you know it you will start feeling more and more like your old self and able to handle the care your baby requires with renewed vigor.

Giving yourself the gift of postpartum yoga is a gift to your baby too!

Don't let the weeks slip by, call me right now at 707-747-5103 to schedule your body's return to normal!

Classes can be started at 6 weeks postpartum after a vaginal birth and 8 weeks after a C-section. You will need to have your caregiver fill out the Postpartum Consent Form to make sure he or she has no objections to your return to physical activity. I recommend doing two classes a week, but you ultimately decide your schedule.

Whether it has been 6 weeks or 6 months since you gave birth, I will be happy to work with you. You don't have to be one of those moms that still carry the baby-weight 8 years down the road! I know, because yoga has helped me lose all my own baby weight (and I didn't start until one year after the birth of my oldest son) and I ended up weighing 15 pounds less than when I got pregnant with him. I have managed to come back to that weight after the birth of my second son. Call me!
